Q&As
1. WHAT MATERIALS ARE YOUR KITCHENS MADE FROM?
Unlike many fitted kitchens, our freestanding kitchen range is made from solid timber, not MDF, chipboard or plywood. Even the painted cabinets are solid oak and therefore retain the benefits making it really eye catching!
2. HOW ARE YOUR KITCHENS MADE?
Dovetail joints come as standard with us, along with solid timber bases. We use a light stain and lacquer and then finish the cabinet with a furniture wax, which ensures they will retain their charm for years.
3. WHERE DOES THE TIMBER COME FROM?
The furniture cabinets are constructed from European oak with the backs and drawer bases being made of reclaimed pine.
4. HOW DO I MEASURE MY KITCHEN?
All we need from you is a simple floor plan that can be hand drawn but please try to include as much information as possible: Dimensions for all walls. Distance from walls to doors/windows. Width of doors/windows. Placement and measurements of any object that might obstruct the design, eg boilers, gas meters etc. Please supply dimensions in millimeters.
5. I’VE MEASURED MY KITCHEN. HOW DO I SEND THE PLANS TO YOU?
You are able to submit them via this website, click here to find out how. Alternatively you can send us your plans by email, post, fax, or drop them off in our showroom: Email: [email protected] Post/Showroom Visit: The Freestanding Kitchen Company, The Fox and Pheasant Centre, Colchester Road, White Colne, CO6 2PS. Fax: 01787 224 497.
6. WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE KITCHEN DESIGNER?
Please refer to our guide on “Three great ways to design a kitchen” for details on how to find a design method that is right for you.
7. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A KITCHEN DESIGN TO BE DONE?
No. We offer a free design service so you don’t need to pay anything until you choose to order your kitchen.
8. CAN YOU PAINT THE UNITS?
Yes, we can paint the solid oak cabinets to any colour of your choice. Please refer to the “Painting” section of the brochure for further information.
9. HOW MUCH DOES AN AVERAGE KITCHEN COST?
Unlike other kitchen providers who will attempt to find out as much about your budget as possible before they issue a quote, we are very transparent with our pricing. Prices for all of our products are clearly noted in our brochure, so there is no mystery in cost of your kitchen. An average kitchen including worktops costs around £5,500.
10. DO YOU OFFER AN ALTERATION SERVICE?
Yes. Whilst this range of cabinets covers most kitchens, we realise that you are an individual and therefore might need something a little more bespoke. We are able to alter any of the cabinets to your specification, be it reducing the length of a cabinet or adding shelving instead of appliance space. Please refer to the “Alteration & Bespoke Cabinets” section of our brochure for further details.
11. DO YOU SELL INTEGRATED APPLIANCES?
Yes. We are able to provide integrated under counter fridge/freezers, dishwashers, washing machines and washer dryers. Please refer to the “Appliances” page of our brochure for further details.
12. WHAT KIND OF WORKTOPS DO YOU SELL?
We supply granite or timber worktops: GRANITE Our granite is a gorgeous black with little grey/white speckles. It is available in maximum lengths of 2.1m to span multiple cabinets. Granites are available ready made for all individual cabinets with bullnose detail to the front and sides. We are able to provide some alterations, such as cutting down lengths or removing bullnosing, however we recommend that a granite fitter is used for making return joins and some sink/hob cut outs.
TIMBER We provide two options for timber worktops; our gorgeous golden colours oak and the beautiful deep-risk iroko. Both will need several coats of worktop oil once installed and then once every six months thereafter.
13. DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT?
We require a 20% deposit when you order your kitchen that secures your delivery week. This can be paid by debit/credit card/bank transfer.
14. CAN I CHANGE MY MIND ONCE A DEPOSIT HAS BEEN PAID?
We are very flexible when it comes to changes in your order and the details of your kitchen aren’t set in stone until a few weeks prior to delivery. You can continue to change your design as much as you like up until this time when we ask that a final order confirmation is made in order to proceed with production.
15. HOW CAN I PAY? • CAN I SPREAD THE COST OF MY KITCHEN?
Yes, you are able to spread the cost of your kitchen through a finance option offered by We Credit. For further details please click here. Also we have given you the option to pay online, safely and securely. Please click here to find out more.
16. HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU DELIVER MY NEW KITCHEN?
We usually like as much notice as possible, which is why we offer a 10% discount from the cost of your order if you are able to order at least 10 weeks in advance of delivery (terms and conditions apply, please ask for details). Having said this, we are able to turnaround kitchens much quicker dependent on the design. We have previously turned complete kitchens around as little as 2 weeks! Give us a call on 01787 223 297 and we will be able to let you know how quickly we can provide your kitchen.
17. MY PROJECT HAS BEEN DELAYED! WHAT IF I’M NOT READY FOR MY KITCHEN TO BE DELIVERED ON THE AGREED DATE?
We’ve had experience of enough building and renovation projects to know that things don’t always go to plan and due to unforeseen circumstances your development might be delayed. We aim to be as flexible as possible which is why we will check in with you a few weeks prior to the scheduled delivery to see if everything is still on track. If not, we will postpone your delivery to a more suitable date.
18. WHAT IS THE DELIVERY CHARGE?
Please see our dedicated delivery page for full details on the applicable charges.
19. WHO WILL DELIVER MY KITCHEN?
All deliveries are a two man job which is a to the door service. Our helpful drivers can be expected to carry your kitchen in to the house assuming that access is reasonable. They are not kitchen fitters and are not able to do any form of fitting. If you have difficult access please inform us so we can allow extra time for the drivers and keep to our schedule.
20. HOW WILL MY KITCHEN ARRIVE?
Unlike fitted kitchens your units will arrive fully assembled, complete with kick plates and handles already attached for ease of fitting. Worktops are not attached to the units but are placed on top after the units have been put in position. Timber worktops are supplied unfinished so that they can be oiled after fitting.
21. DO YOU OFFER A FITTING OR INSTALLATION SERVICE?
No, we are a kitchen supplier only, however we are happy to provide advice on the best ways of fitting the units. Installation is typically much simpler than that of a fitted kitchen because units already arrive fully assembled. Most clients choose to have a builder or fitter for the day or two but as all units come ready to install you could do it yourself, saving you money! Please refer to our “Cabinet Fitting Tips” document by clicking here.
22. DOES MY KITCHEN COME WITH A GUARANTEE?
Yes, our kitchens come with a 10 year guarantee subject to terms and conditions.
